PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
June 28th to June 30th 2004
MONDAY June 28
Old Hippies - Glastonbury comment
Old hippies never die... they just end up in the Green Fields at the top of the Glastonbury Festival. There, in the comfort of their caravans and converted buses, they burn joss-sticks and drink spiced Indian tea while earnestly discussing matters cosmic, psychic and astrological. On Saturday night, though, many of us made a rare expedition to the Pyramid Stage to see Paul McCartney. I invited the children, but there were no takers. 'Sorry, Dad,' said my teenagers. 'We want to see Basement Jaxx instead.' Honestly. I just don't know what the youth of today are coming to!
TUESDAY June 29
Scorpio symbol feedback emails
Hi Jonathan, As a Scorpio, I agree that the Eagle makes a better symbol for our sign. People often tell me I have eagle eyes. Thank you for your campaign to change our image. It's comforting to know there are some who believe we Scorpios have good points also! Regards, Bronwen Dear Jonathan, I object to the masking of Scorpio. It's called 'denial'. I know a married Scorpio who got two other women pregnant, then abandoned the family. My mother and stepmother are Scorpio. Neither can be trusted. This sign deserves its bad reputation. Christine.
WEDNESDAY June 30
Scorpio symbol feedback email - Part 2
Dear Jonathan, I am suspicious of your desire to turn the sign of the Scorpion into the sign of the eagle. It makes me think of Thomas Bowdler, the nineteenth century do-gooder who went through all the works of Shakespeare, systematically taking out all of the rude bits. The zodiac is surely a circle of wild beasts with powerful, primaeval instincts. Or maybe you also think that the crab should lose its claws, the Ram should wear foam pads on the end of its horns... and the Lion should be tamed and taught to do tricks. Best wishes Kevin
