Jonathan Cainer Zodiac Forecasts

PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
May 29th to May 31st 2006

MONDAY May 29
'Precession' email

Hi Jonathan,
My friend tells me that astrology is out of step with the sky. She says that over 2,000 years of 'precession', the constellations have moved. Is that right?
Marie

Dear Marie,
The constellations do indeed move over time. That's precisely why we astrologers don't use them to define the zodiac. We use equal, unchanging divisions of the 'ecliptic' (or sun's apparent path) instead. Precession has been happening for far more than just a couple of thousand years. Though it is relatively new to modern astronomers, some guardians of ancient wisdom have long been aware of this phenomenon.

TUESDAY May 30
New Moon wish email

Hello Jonathan,
My Grandmother said that, if you want to have a wish granted you take a silver coin, close your eyes and curtsey to the new moon. Where does this folklore come from?
Mary

Dear Mary,
I don't know... but I'd like to bet it goes back a lot further than your Gran. Most traditional sayings and beliefs have been passed down by word of mouth, for thousands of years. They provide us a precious connection to our distant ancestors. Though some folklore sounds silly today, many of the old tales and legends contain snippets of great, forgotten wisdom.

WEDNESDAY May 31
Celestial Observatory in Peruvian Andes

I'm very excited about a new archeological discovery, high in the Peruvian Andes. It's a celestial observatory on the top of a Pyramid that's 33 foot tall. Precise alignments and sightlines show that it was specifically constructed to mark the summer and winter solstices. Experts reckon it's at least 4,200-years old, which puts it roughly on a par with the Pyramids of Egypt... and with Stonehenge. As with these and other ancient sacred sites across the world, little is known about the people who created them. But they obviously took their astrology very seriously.
