Dear Anita, |
TUESDAY June 5 Ouija boards spell trouble Dear Jonathan, I must take issue with your suggestion that ouija boards are all in the imagination. When I was single, I used a board to ask about my romantic prospects. The letters S-I-N-E-S came through. I assumed it was a mis-spelling of the word 'signs' and kept thinking, 'What SIGNS am I supposed to look for?' Less than a week later I met a new boyfriend. His last name was... Sines! Karen

WEDNESDAY June 6 The full moon Influence So now, it's official. A police chief confirms that when the Moon is full, people are more likely to commit violent crime. In my experience, they are also more likely to give birth, get drunk, have a mishap, suffer from 'plot loss', accidentally start a fire or fall in love. They also tend to drive faster, spend more money and argue with authority figures. Surely it can only be a matter of time before some commitee of Eurocrats passes a motion, demanding that the Moon be taken down from the sky immediately on the grounds of health and safety. |
THURSDAY June 7 Talking from the heart... Last week, I gave a talk at the Sunrise Festival in Somerset. Despite forecasts of a washout, the Sun shone. I did not follow a prepared speech. I never do. I just trust my heart and open my mouth! This is a risky formula. Everything depends on what the listeners manage to draw out of me. It paid off on Sunday, though. I kept coming out with observations and predictions that I didn't even realise I was ready to make! I'll share some of these with you soon. |
FRIDAY June 8 More on that odd phone call Hi Jonathan, Recently, you published a letter from Anita who had received a strange phone call at work and wondered if she had connected with a parallel world. I have another explanation. Unscrupulous enterprises often find the name of a company employee, call them up and state that they've got the "requested information". Then, they send in a bill, claiming that person as their authority. Steven Dear Steven, Details in Anita's original letter rule out this possiblity. When I edited it down to fit this space, I clearly cut out too much. I'll be more careful in future. |
SATURDAY June 9 New Moon with Mercury, Mars and Saturn With each passing day this week, we come closer to a New Moon. The decreasing amount of moonlight allows us to see some stars and planets more brightly. Or, at least, it does if we are not watching them from a city where the endless glare of electric illumination almost entirely obscures the sky. No matter where you are, though, you will feel the energy of a special celestial situation. Mercury is stationary. Mars aligns harmoniously with Saturn. There's a chance to reflect, to become more sensitive, to see an additional side to a story that has become overly familiar - and to overcome old obstacles. |
