When the Time is Right
|
Diplomats, politicians, cooks, comedians... even teenagers playing video games, soon learn that timing is everything. If you pick the wrong moment, you won't get the right result. An astrologer's job involves telling people when to act and when to wait. Sometimes, though, no advice is necessary. The right things happen just when they need to. A Climate Change conference, held any earlier in 2009 or any further into 2010, would have come under the influence of several obstructive alignments. The Copenhagen Summit, though, occurs during a rare 'window of opportunity'. There's a real chance of a credible, workable agreement.

Eco Ego
|
The Copenhagen Climate Summit is happening during a rare window of astrological opportunity - so, in theory, they shouldn't just end up with any old deal but with an historic, meaningful agreement. After three decades supporting campaigns for greater awareness of environmental issues, I now have mixed feelings. I'm excited, of course, but also concerned, given next year's intense alignments - lest, in swinging from denial to acceptance, the world goes to the other extreme. Converts to a cause often become overly zealous. It would be sad to see a new fanatical 'eco-religion', complete with witch hunts and 'Spanish Inquisitions'.

5 Little Words
|
Dear Jonathan
I had a needy/ insecure/ gentle/ funny Cancerian boyfriend. We lasted about five years. A few months after his departure I acquired a dog, born on July 16. He was also needy/ insecure/ gentle/ funny. A year later I got together with another Cancerian who ended up having 'issues' with allergies (just like my dog!). Plus he was needy, insecure and funny. However he had a temper. Suddenly my gentle dog showed a temper too - at me! Maybe dogs don't have horoscopes... but I've had it with Cancerians!
A Libran
Dear Libran,
I don't believe your last five words.

The Climes They Are a Changin'
|
Hello Jonathan, I had to write. 'The good and great' discussing our future... You seem to be in favour of Copenhagen. Sitting here shaking my head. Stuart
Dear Jonathan, I cannot believe you advocate a climate change agreement. Global warming is a complete hoax. I'm disgusted and will never read your horoscopes again. Sue
Dear Stuart, Actually, 'the great and the good' is a tongue-in-cheek phrase.
Dear Sue, I'm not advocating agreement, I'm predicting it. There's a difference. If only we could capture the hot air from both sides of this debate we'd have no energy problem!

No Time to Wallow in the Maya
|
Hi Jonathan, In an Aries forecast last week, you said Mars is in tense alignment to Saturn. I don't understand. Mars is in Leo, Saturn's in Libra. Aren't aspects between planets in these signs usually harmonious? Helle Dear Helle, Not always. Whenever any two planets form a 45 degree angle, there's tension. Astrology books for beginners often oversimplify some of the rules about 'aspects'. Jonathan, I've heard that December 21, 2012 brings an alignment that only happens every 20,000 years. Paula Dear Paula, That's stretching a point and playing with language to sell books and films about the Mayan Calendar!

Your Week Ahead
|
Look out for shooting stars tomorrow night. Spaceship Earth is travelling through a sector of the sky where there's 'space debris'. Some of this will burn up, spectacularly, as it makes contact with our atmosphere. It's not the biggest meteor shower of the year. It may not look as impressive as some of the fairy lights that now adorn our homes and streets. But these lights are real and, according to tradition, powerful. If you see one, you're entitled to make a wish. Later this week, we'll be in the 'Dark Of The Moon'. That's a time when mystics experience visions and even 'ordinary people' tend to have vivid, prophetic dreams. There's magic in the air!
