PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Full Circle
|
Dear Jonathan,
I was thinking about how the partial lunar eclipse on the solstice has affected my relationship decisions. In December 1991 I was torn between two men. One proposed marriage, but he was an
alcoholic. I knew it would be a difficult relationship. In December, 1991 I broke up with him and eventually returned to my original relationship. Strangely enough, 19 years later, on another solstice lunar eclipse, that now-married alcoholic man has tried to reignite a relationship with me. This time I sent him back to his wife. It feels like something has come full circle. Sarah

Blind Spot?
|
Dear Jonathan,
Your recent comments about reincarnation reveal a blind spot in your otherwise clear vision. To me, brief life-spans, followed by a blanked-out eternity, or even the heaven or hell promised by the Judeo-Christian-Islamic religions are unreasonable; a reward or punishment of eternity for actions of a brief life? That's like killing someone for stealing a loaf, or awarding millions to someone for helping someone else cross the street. Harinder
Dear Harinder,
It's not so much a blind spot as a direction in which I deliberately choose not to look. I'll explain why tomorrow.

A Matter of Life and Death
|
Yesterday, I published a letter from Harinder, who suggested I had a 'blind spot' in my vision involving the notion of reincarnation. I can see that it must seem odd when I express my doubts about this topic and its long associated subject, Karma. After all, both astrology and reincarnation are things you either believe in or you don't. To me, though, the big question is not, 'what do you believe happens after death?' as 'do you believe in death?' Some people think death is just life, going through a dramatic change and the loss of a physical form.

Getting Physical
|
Yesterday, I suggested that death might just be nothing more than life, going through a dramatic change. If life doesn't end when we shed our physical form, it probably doesn't begin the moment we are born. So, who or what were we before we got here and who or what will we become once we go through that next big change? That's tough to contemplate because we relate so closely to our physical existence. We can hardly imagine not having one. Astrology, though, governs only who you are (and can become) in your physical form. Souls don't have horoscopes!

2011 Reasons to be Cheerful
|
It's worth remembering, as we move into the new year, that we are 'betwixt and between' eclipses. Eclipses come in pairs at times when the earth Moon and Sun are aligned in three dimensions, not just two. Mystics have long considered such times to be potent. They are not just good for wishing, dreaming or hoping but for reaching out and creating new realities. When you make your resolution, don't feel you must avoid setting your sights too high. It may take longer than you want it to... but positive change can yet come to every life in 2011.

Your January Monthly Forecast
|
We ended 2010 with a solstice spectacular; a disappearing, reappearing full moon. Eclipses come in pairs. So now, we start 2011 with a splendid solar eclipse. It's not total. Nor is it visible all over the globe. Still, though, you could hardly hope for a more vivid omen of 'rebirth'. 'Nothing,' says the sky, 'has to be quite the same as it once was. You may think you know what kind of year this needs to be... but you are basing your expectation on old information.' Soon we'll all have reason to feel that amazing possibilities await us.
