Nil By Mouth
|
I'm fascinated by a news story from Ahmedabad, India, about an 82-year-old gentleman called Prahlad Jani. He's been under observation in Sterling Hospital, under the care of neurologist, Sudhir Shah. This is the second time Dr Shah has studied Mr Jani. Back in 2003, when this gracefully bearded holy man was a sprightly youth of 75, Mr Shah also kept him under 24-hour surveillance for ten days. Mr Jani, it seems, practises the ancient art of inedia. He does not eat or drink. Ever. Apparently, he's lived for 70 years on nothing but air and meditation.

Life in the Fast Lane
|
Around the internet, cynics and sceptics gather daily in chatrooms to pour scorn on what they call 'pseudoscience'. There, they take great delight in declaring homeopaths, psychics and, of course, astrologers to be frauds. Currently, though, I'm lower down their hate list than usual. The worst of their vitriol is directed at Prahlad Jani, 82, from India who claims not to have eaten or drunk anything thing for 70 years. Most annoyingly (to them) he's been observed by a neurologist, who has monitored him 24/7, confirmed the fast is genuine and detected no deterioration in Mr Jani's health.

Full of Hot Air?
|
I have been writing, recently, about Mr Prahlad Jani, an 82-year-old Indian gentleman who claims that, through his practice of an ancient meditation, he has managed not to eat or drink for 70 years. This may or may not be true. To me, what's interesting is that the story has surfaced at this particular time. In this era of uncertainty, we can no longer feel sure of what's possible or impossible. Whether or not human beings can live on nothing but air, we ought to respect this timely reminder that we do not live by bread alone!

Change for the Better
|
Dear Jonathan, I'm a Virgo and I'm going through a tough time. Every time I read my prediction, you acknowledge this... and promise things will improve. But I feel as if this has been going on for ages. Will there ever be a real change? Adil
Dear Adil, Things will improve! You are right, though, I do keep saying this. They WILL improve. For over two years, you have had Saturn in your sign. It is finally due to leave your sign towards the end of July. The second half of this year will bring great relief and progress!

Birthday Outing
|
Jonathan,
I have heard that you can alter your astrological outlook by going to a different part of the world on your birthday. Apparently, if you tell the astrologer what you would like to change, you can be told where to go. What are your thoughts? Steve
Dear Steve, It's definitely part of traditional astrological belief. Many of my colleagues offer such advice. But it is one of those assertions that annoy the scientifically minded. How you can you ever prove that life would have been different if only you'd celebrated your birthday elsewhere? I prefer more pragmatic techniques.
Though, at the time, it seemed as if the Conservatives and the Lib-Dems took an eternity to create their historic coalition, it all happened at a cracking pace. That's especially impressive when we consider how many complex issues they had to decide upon, including the date of the next election. This, we're told, will be May 7, 2015. I doubt they asked an astrologer whether this would be auspicious - but I am happy to confirm that, even if it has come about more by luck than by judgement, this is an occasion on which Mercury will not be retrograde.

Your Week Ahead
|
Acupuncturists believe invisible lines connect points in the body. Students of 'earth energy' perceive mysterious 'ley lines' between ancient, sacred sites around the globe. And astrologers measure alignments formed between planets as they pass through the heavens. No visible line now links Jupiter - on one side of the sky - to Saturn on the other. Yet I perceive a guitar string being wound between these two points. It won't, this week, reach the complete note but when Venus crosses the midpoint of this opposition, it will pluck that string like a plectrum. If you detect discord, now you know why.
