PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

July 19 2010 to July 25 2010

Monday July 19
Viva Saturn in Libra

Later this week, Saturn completes a long sojourn in Virgo and moves into Libra, where it will remain till 2012. Many Virgos will breathe a sigh of relief once this change takes place. They'll feel the difference almost immediately. But some Librans are worried. I've had letters asking how I can describe Saturn in Libra as a good thing for Librans when Saturn in Virgo has been such a demanding experience for Virgos? The short answer is that Saturn is traditionally 'exalted' in Libra. It suits this sign much better. There's a long answer too. I'll share that tomorrow.

Tuesday July 20
Saturn for Certain

Dear Jonathan,
I'm a tough Virgo who has survived Saturn in my sign so far. But my Mum, Mother-in-Law and several friends are all Librans and they seem a lot more sensitive. How do you think they will fare in the next two years? JB

Dear JB,
Saturn intensifies our relationship with order and authority. Virgos, who always do their best to be diligent, become anxious about potential irregularity while Saturn is in their sign. But Librans question everything, constantly. Their lives therefore, often lack a much-needed sense of certainty. Saturn is about to supply this!

Wednesday July 21
Squids In

Several readers been asking me about Paul, the psychic cephalopod, who lives in a tank in Germany and made a string of accurate predictions during the football World Cup. I've been following his work with interest, along with that of Cassandra, an Australian octopus who has apparently decided the outcome of the forthcoming election by choosing a picture of Julia Gillard, over one of Tony Abbot. For the record, I plan to wait for more proof of a consistent track record before I invite either of these mystic molluscs to write the predictions, next time I take a break.

Thursday July 22
Reasons to be Cheerful

Saturn is now in Libra. Or rather, (for when talking about the planet of definition we must be precise) Saturn has entered the division of the ecliptic that astrologers call Libra. I've already spoken about why, even though many Virgos did not enjoy having Saturn in their sign, Librans should not find the experience so difficult. It's not just Virgos and Librans who should soon notice an improvement. There's been a lot of doom and gloom in the news lately. Most of us expect tough times ahead. But we'll soon hear some very practical reasons to feel more optimistic.

Friday July 23
How High the Moon

How Full is the Moon this weekend? It will, soon, be full enough for a coven to meet under, a vampire to fly past, a werewolf to howl at or a couple to get engaged below. Some mystics believe that, just as you need less alcohol to get drunk when you are at high altitude (on a plane for example) you need less when the Moon is full. That, they think, may explain why people become accident prone at this time of the month. Moonlight, all on its own, is intoxicating. Be careful what else you take with it!

Saturday July 24
Your Week Ahead

This week's Full Moon comes just as we reach a peak in this year's rare, intense alignment of slow-moving planets. Jupiter and Uranus are close to each other on one side of the sky. Mars and Saturn are almost exactly opposite. And Pluto sits at a right-angle to both pairings. That's why so many of us feel as if we're caught up in some kind of battle or struggle where we're not even sure what side we're on. Changes and challenges keep arising. But, for all that this is tough, it's cathartic and constructive - plus, ultimately, healthy and beneficial.
