Spec-(of dust)-ulation
|
Dear Jonathan,
Do you believe that God exists? Syota.
Dear Syota,
if you weren't one of my Japanese readers, I'm not sure I'd answer this. But since you ask, can we please turn your question upside down? Does God believe that I exist? If I were he (or she, or it) I'd have my doubts. God, after all, has been around since the beginning of time and will remain for all eternity. I got here in 1957. From God's perspective, I'm a blink-or-you-miss-it phenomenon. It can be notoriously difficult to believe in one of those!

All the Time in the World
|
A Japanese reader called Syota wrote in recently, asking whether I believed in God. I turned his question around and asked whether God, being so much older and more permanent than I am, believed in me? Since then, I've been thinking. Put like that, it sounds a bit depressing, as if a brief human existence is just too fleeting and inconsequential to attract the Creator's attention. But an eternal being, by definition, has 'all the time in the world'. So he, she or it must have all the time in the world for each and every one of us.

Prof Proof
|
Jonathan,
I work in a professional organisation yet often rely on softer skills such as astrology and tarot. How do I overcome the negative reaction this gets from sceptics. I'm sure you experience this a lot. Edwina.
Dear Edwina,
Indeed. And astrology is not the only far-fetched thing I believe in. I trust acupuncture, telepathy and intuition too. There's little scientific proof to support these ideas. But, then, nor can we conclusively demonstrate that democracy is the best form of governance or that every human is essentially kind and good. So should we be ashamed of saying this?

Equinox
|
We have arrived at the equinox. Dawn and dusk are now equally spaced. There are as many hours of darkness as of light. There's nothing especially unusual about this. This time of balance comes twice a year, every year. If you're not a great watcher of sunrises and sunsets, you might not notice. Unless, that is, you feel an unusually strong urge to clear out clutter, tidy up living spaces and sort out arrangements, or involvements that have become untenably complicated. No matter what sign you are, you'll find wherever there's a mess now, it can be set straight.

Conjunctivitus
|
Dear Mr Cainer,
We've had several 'inconjunct' alignments lately. Don't these imply issues that can never be resolved? Lilli
Dear Jonathan,
You say inconjuncts (angles of 150 degrees) are your favourites. That baffles me. I don't see what good impossible situations are. Loriel
I have several quincunxes in my chart. What comfort can I find in these? Lack of completion may be interesting - but emotionally, it's exhausting. Susan
Dear All,
Think of when people sincerely, respectfully 'agree to differ'. It's such a mature way to avert conflict and inspire acceptance. A quincunx, at best, embodies this permanent positive possibility.

Your Week Ahead
|
We start this week in the Dark of the Moon. Traditionally, the time when you can't see a Moon in the sky at night is a mystical, magical phase. Clairvoyants get more visions. Psychics see more truths. Those who seek answers from the spirit world seem to get more insight. And deep down, no matter how practical we claim to be, we are all 'sensitives'. A conjunction of Venus and Saturn later this week speaks of an ability to turn a dream into reality. Whatever sign you are, if you follow your inner voice now, you'll be well guided.
