More or Less
|
Hi Jonathan, You recently published a letter from a reader who pointed out that the phrase 'less is more' is not an Americanism because it came from the architect Mies van der Rohe who was born in Aachen, Germany. But Mies emigrated to the USA in 1937 becoming an American citizen in 1944. Maria.Hi Maria, Thank you, and thanks too, to the several other people who have written to say much the same. I stand twice-corrected. Now, let's draw an end to the discussion. On this topic at least, I'm inclined to feel that less is more.

Square Deals
|
On Thursday and Friday, in Sydney and Melbourne, I'm giving talks in which I'll cover many topics, including the meaning of the current series of seven squares between Pluto and Uranus. There are plans afoot to video these and one of these days, edited highlights may make their way to a computer screen near you! Meanwhile, I can tell you I think these 'seven squares' herald a glorious process by which millions worldwide become more awake and aware, more conscious and compassionate, more willing to embrace the new and explore the alternative... and more respectful of their fellow humans.
You can get tickets for the talks (and there's a discount for 5 Star members) here.

Seven
|
Dear Jonathan, Is there a connection between the seven squares of Uranus and Pluto and the biblical so-called Seven Seals/Trumpets/Bowls/Vials? MarianneDear Marianne, I can tell you that seven is traditionally a magical number because, through history (at least until 1781), there were only seven 'moving lights' in the sky - the Sun, the Moon and five planets. In many countries, the days of the week are named after these. In many cultures, the word seven still has resonance. But I've yet to have a revelation powerful enough to help me understand The Book Of Revelations!

Right on the Naylor
|
Hi Jonathan,
Your positive approach to astrology reminds me to tell you that, long ago, my husband had his chart cast by the late John Naylor who told him, 'your ship of fortune is unsinkable'. My husband was born on May 18, 1926, under a 'Fixed Grand Cross' and he cherished that remark, clinging to it in times of challenge for more than 50 years. Jill.
Dear Jill,
John Naylor was a highly regarded astrologer. His father, Richard Naylor, pioneered the world's first newspaper astrology column. I'm flattered to be mentioned in the same letter as such a luminary.

High and Dry
|
Some people suspect that alcohol is more potent when consumed at a high altitude. They suggest this may explain why we so often hear stories about inebriated people behaving badly on planes. Science has yet to confirm this. Nor is there yet any official confirmation of my own hypothesis, that folk get drunk more quickly and easily when there's a full moon. But I think we have all observed ourselves tending to get a bit more careless on Saturdays and Sundays than we do on weekdays. Here comes a Full Moon weekend. Expect fun but be a little wary!

Your October Monthly Forecast
|
In October, Saturn moves into a different sign of the zodiac for the first time since July 2010. That tells us plenty about the 'change of mood' that people will notice, all over the world. It suggests a growing need to be more realistic and responsible plus a deepening sense of honour and duty. Jupiter's commencement of a retrograde phase will intensify this effect. While Geminis, Sagittarians, Scorpios, Capricorns, Aquarians and Pisceans will perhaps be most sensitive to this influence, we should all be on the lookout for ways to make a more constructive approach to chaotic circumstances.
