Time Out
|
Hi Jonathan, Time is really a man-made concept we use to measure and quantify our existence. In the purest form there really is no time. We simply exist until we cease to exist. I am used to my opinions and thoughts not being understood by most people but I hope you understand a little of what I mean. Jason
Dear Jason, The part of your letter that surprised me was not the definition of time. Many philosophers and scientists would say exactly the same. I'm just surprised to hear your concern that such an obvious truth might be surprising!

Letting Go
|
Dear Jonathan,
In a forecast recently, you quoted the old saying, 'If you love someone, let them go.' I have often heard that phrase bandied about but I really don't understand what it is supposed to mean. Daurice
Dear Daurice,
I think it just means that sometimes, we can care so much about someone that we make ourselves unduly vulnerable. We can even scare away a friend or partner by needing them more than they can cope with being needed. But letting go is not always easy. Perhaps some readers would care to comment or share their own story.

Age Concern
|
Hi Jonathan,
You recently answered the question about the start of the Age of Aquarius by quoting a colleague who thinks it began in the 15th century. I thought astrology was an exact science based on planetary positions. How can such a vague answer be acceptable? Graham
Hi Graham,
Astrology is not a science. It is an interpretive art based on traditional lore, applied to data drawn from precise mathematical calculations. Or at least, usually it is. The 'ages' are the one area of this subject around which no universal convention has ever been agreed. Tomorrow I'll explain why.

Theory Query
|
The equinox, when days and nights are equal, is a traditional time for restoring lost balance. So, today I shall attempt a more balanced answer to yesterday's question. How, if astrology works with precise planetary positions, can astrologers be in debate about the date of the start of the Age of Aquarius? The idea of an 'age' isn't linked to planets. It involves a theory based on a slight wobble in Earth's rotation that causes the date of the equinox to shift over many millennia. We all see the theory. We're in debate about how best to apply it.

Straight Talk
|
At the Equinox, where days and nights are equal, things that have been out of balance come back into line. Or, at least, some things. I can't, sadly, promise that all injustices will be compensated for - any more than I can guarantee that if there's a wonky picture hanging in your hallway, it will magically straighten itself out. But we will all soon tend to feel more inspired to right wrongs and adjust unsatisfactory situations where we can. And there's a greater than usual chance of major mysteries being solved, even if we don't necessarily like all we learn.

Your Week Ahead
|
This year, the equinox heralds the start of a new astrological year in which the first major event will be a rare 'Grand Cross' alignment, next month, involving Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. We're entering a phase which brings big opportunities but also, big challenges. Many now wonder how the world can get back to a path that leads to peace and prosperity. Lately, it seems, we have wandered too far from that road, out into the jungle of uncertainty and conflict. The planets suggest such a course correction IS possible if enough of us want this sincerely enough.
