Measure for Measure
|
Scientists now believe that Mercury's diameter has contracted by several miles over the last few billion years. These calculations paint a picture that resonates with astrologers. After all, this planet has a traditional symbolic association with trade-offs and discounts. Yet we are concerned. Mercury is only small. What if the shrinkage continues? Will we one day learn that this planet has suffered the fate of Pluto and been cruelly cast on to the cosmic scrap heap for the sin of being too small? We must hope that by then, astronomers have outgrown their current, childish obsession with comparative size.

Free Love
|
Remember that letter from the reader who wanted to know the meaning of 'If you love someone, set them free?' Another reader called John comments, 'It is all about putting someone else's happiness above our own. Some say this is the highest form of love.' Laura adds, 'I have grown to understand that clinging is really evidence that you want something from the other person that you should be providing to yourself.' And Tony says, 'I'd like to add the phrase that usually follows this statement. If they love you, they will come back.' More on this topic soon.

Sleeping Beauty
|
Hi Jonathan,
In a recent forecast you said, 'Think how much more we might accomplish, if we didn't have to sleep. But we probably wouldn't achieve more because we'd be too exhausted!' You're right. My daily commute is five hours. The lack of sleep is making me ill. But my boss insists I'm at my desk even though I could work as effectively from home. Phil
Dear Phil,
Natural processes shouldn't be rushed and the natural nightly 'inner transfer' should always be respectfully allowed the time it needs. But then there's no point in losing sleep... over losing sleep!

Beyond Belief
|
Dear Jonathan,
Uranus/Pluto squares are often described as times when false beliefs can be challenged. This is wonderful yet unnerving! What about the possibilities if your belief system is in a more realistic and healthy state? Imani
Dear Imani,
How are we supposed to know? Those who hold 'false beliefs' believe themselves to hold true beliefs! Nobody believes that their beliefs are beyond belief! I think it is fairer to say that the ongoing square between Uranus and Pluto is causing us all, regardless of what we believe, to question the fears that once made us unnecessarily afraid.

Parental Responsibility
|
Dear Jonathan,
How much is a person's life affected by their parents' birth charts? Kaye
Dear Kaye,
Like all good questions, this raises another question: how much is a person's life affected by their parents? The answer, surely, is a lot, partly through DNA and partly through the way they have been brought up. The traditional laws of horoscope interpretation don't easily differentiate between nature and nurture but they do contain clear rules for determining how a child will perceive their main male and female role models... and the challenges or advantages that this may well confer on them.

Your April Monthly Forecast
|
Sometimes, we recognise a better way forward only when we see that an old route has reached a dead end. That's why change, no matter how positive, is often accompanied by an experience of frustration. Back in 2012, a series of seven right angles between Uranus and Pluto began. They continue till 2015. Each triggers 'awakening to the existence of new possibility'. April brings the fifth in this sequence. It is particularly powerful because it meets a further right angle (or square) between Mars and Jupiter, creating a Grand Cross in the four 'Cardinal' signs of the zodiac.
