Solstice!

The Solstice is here! Everyone in the northern hemisphere will try to enjoy the sun as it appears, from time to time between the showers. Whilst for those south of the equator, it brings a promise of longer days ahead. Like all things in life there are seasons of light and shade and the Solstice is a wonderful reminder of this. But wherever you are in the world, the Full Moon in Sagittarius is a sign of optimism. Whether your nights are growing longer or getting shorter, enjoy the day!

The Power of the Solstice

Whether you've just had a few minutes more sunshine or a few rays less, this time of year is a time to feel grateful. Though if you've been up all night celebrating with the druids at Stonehenge you may not necessarily agree! As the Sun reaches its zenith it reminds us that our successes are fleeting and that our troubles don't stay indefinitely. We're on the right track if we appreciate every beam that shines our way, no matter whether they're getting shorter or longer.

Confident Cancerians
|

With all the excitement over the Solstice I'd almost forgotten to talk about the Sun entering Cancer. For Cancerians, this heralds their solar return and brings a time when they feel a renewed confidence in themselves. It indicates too that all of us may begin to feel more sensitive, both to our own needs and to those of the people around us. With so much trouble in the world this can only be a good thing. Acts of kindness and appreciation may be more tangible now.

Behind the Veil

Hi Oscar,
Does Neptune retrograde make its powers of illusion weaker or stronger? Rosemary
Dear Rosemary,
Good question. Illusion is so nebulous that assessing the strength of its power is, in itself, tricky. This is a time when what we think of as fantasy becomes a little more realistic. When smoke and mirrors become cigarettes and glass. As the veil of deception changes, we are more able to question the concepts and ideas we normally accept as true. Our sense of what's real or not is heightened. Let's hope we use our enhanced power of discernment well.

Feel Good Factors

So the UK has embarked upon the path to leave the European Union. The course has been set, and now the waters and waves must be navigated as they come. Many astrologers make grand predictions about major events such as referendums but I have always seen astrology as a more personal art, one dedicated to managing feelings and understanding the human condition. If the decision in this referendum was not one you had wished for, do not abandon hope. With Mars soon to turn direct, we may all find that our frustrations begin to ease with the passage of time. The focus now has to be on how people can move forward together, regardless of political divide.
As the weekend approaches, so does the moment that Jupiter and Pluto form this angle we astrologers term a 'trine'. This is a positive relationship between planets, with a galvanising effect on those who tune into its power. If you do, you'll find that you gain a little more than usual by doing the right thing. Acting selflessly may become less of its own reward and a little more outright rewarding! With that in mind, this is a day for doing good deeds. Help someone across the road. Pick up a piece of litter. It will make you feel good too!

Your Week Ahead

This week Mars turns direct in Scorpio, the sign it co-rules. Meanwhile Pluto, the other planet associated with Scorpio, trines Jupiter. This offers a particularly nice boost for Scorpios and bodes well for Aries, Sagittarius and Pisces. For all signs, though, it brings a renewed sense of power and strength that can tip the balance in any unresolved challenges. With Venus also making some important aspects, relationships rise to the top of the agenda. It's a good time to ask emotive questions.
