Today the planet of communication Mercury squares Uranus. Uranus brings an element of surprise, and a stroke of genius which livens up thoughts and ideas. So, expect movement where you have been feeling stuck, and loopholes where there have been cul-de-sacs. This is a day of potential breakthroughs. Just when you least thought it possible, change is high on the agenda. It's as if your mind can turn somersaults and see from a different perspective. Awakenings, on a grand scale can happen today. Be ready for a sudden flash of inspiration.

Theresa May

Since the referendum the UK's political system has been reeling. It's been a perfect storm in British politics, but in Theresa May, who is a Libran, the Conservative party may have elected the captain that can steady their ship. As she approaches her sixtieth birthday she enters a powerful stage of her life. It is auspicious that her fifth Jupiter return became exact less than a week ago. And it is interesting that it occurred in Virgo, the sign of service. A Jupiter return signals a visit from Lady Luck, and Teresa has certainly been in the right place, at the right time for the leadership contest. Jupiter is the planet of positivity and benevolence, of wisdom and growth. Let's hope that the winds of change blow a little more gently now.
Play Day
Venus moves into Leo today. Though this is particularly positive for Leos, as well as Taureans and Librans (who are ruled by Venus), it's an auspicious moment for all. Even those of us who don't feel particularly 'artistic' will notice creativity in the air. It might be that you express yourself differently, or find a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world you live in. We're all talented in our own ways and we each have a unique charisma. Today is a day when a playful heart is one that will be rewarded.

Spot On
Hi Oscar,
I read that the Sun is losing its spots as it enters a period of decreased activity. Do you read anything into this? Regards, Edward
Hi Edward,
I believe we can confidently use the Sun in astrology as we've always done. There's evidence, going back for thousands of years, of 'seers' looking to the stars for guidance and inspiration. Since Sun cycles last about eleven years, I doubt there's anything happening now that hasn't been seen time and time again. The ancients incorporated such moments into their teachings, and 21st-century astrologers remain firmly rooted in these traditions.

Word Play

The procession of Mercury through the sign of Leo reinforces Venus's presence there with an intellectual edge. If Venus encourages us to access a more playful side to our feelings, Mercury inspires us to express this through the articulation of our thoughts. This creative boost will peak at the weekend, when Mercury and Venus form a conjunction in Leo. Although this is a time to be more expressive, it would be wise to choose your words with care. They may be more valuable than you realise.

Breaking the Habit

This weekend the Sun squares Uranus. It moves into approximately the same position Mercury occupied on Monday, and may thus bring a return to the themes you were looking at earlier this week. Whilst Monday's influence concerned your ideas, this breakthrough is more to do with your sense of identity and purpose. It's a moment to question why you do the things you do, and identify where behaviour changes can benefit your life. We all have one or two habits that ought to be broken. This weekend, the skies encourage us to make a start.

Your Week Ahead

This week the Sun squares Uranus then moves into Leo. For those born under this sign it's a particularly energising time. Leos may feel challenged and that they need to rip up the rulebook, but they'll be provided with the help they need to do so. In fact, we'll all feel these effects. But with a Full Moon and some helpful planetary conjunctions in our toolbox, there's nothing to stop us making the most of these opportunities and making this week a successful one.
