'You live and learn. At any rate, you live', said the great Douglas Adams. Over the weekend, Mercury moved into Sagittarius, which traditionally associates learning with adventure. But with Mercury due to turn retrograde before it leaves the sign of the centaur, there's a chance that what we learn will need to be revised. That doesn't mean that we're making mistakes now. To quote Adams again: 'I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.'

My house is east/west facing, so it gets a little dark, especially during the winter months. Even so, I rarely use the overhead lights, because they can be stark, despite the pockets of shade they create. I prefer the softer throw of light created by lamps. Following last weekend's opposition with revolutionary Uranus, Venus experiences change today as she enters Scorpio, the Zodiac's 'corner of darkness'. But Venus's love won't be hidden away... there's something beautiful in the shadows.

Hope on the Horizon

I often receive letters asking when life will stop being so hard. It's a tricky question to answer. While there are certain trends I can point to, they're never a guarantee that we've all turned the corner on to easy street. But there are reasons for hope on the horizon. Seven weeks from now, Saturn, the planet of hard work, returns home to Capricorn for the first time since 1988. Though it won't be a free ride, it's certainly a step in the right direction. We should begin to feel this effect soon.

Crocodile Fears

Consider the crocodile. This ancient reptile, one of the most dangerous predators in the world, lays its eggs on land. Once hatched, Mother Croc needs to move her babies back to the watering hole. She uses those nightmarish, bone-crushing jaws to gently help her young emerge from their eggs and carry them to the water. As the Sun and Pluto encourage one another, even the most powerful and terrifying forces can be controlled and channeled into something positive and nurturing.

This weekend, Saturn and Uranus make their final 'trine' in 2017's influential trilogy. As they align, the Moon arrives to form the third tip of a Grand Trine, and a benevolent triangle forms across the sky. Although always a blessing, a Grand Trine creates a climate to operate in, rather than a specific action or event. This weekend, it brings the energy to try something new, destabilise an unhealthy situation, challenge an old way of working and awaken new awareness. It should be action-packed.

This week, Venus both conjuncts Jupiter and aligns harmoniously with Neptune. Normally, this would suggest that we might find our hearts running away with us. But, the Moon briefly transforms the Saturn-Uranus link into a Grand Trine - which will have a powerful effect. It suggests that, along with the hope, adventure and optimism that find their way to us, a sense of pragmatism and ingenuity will accompany them. And that will help to turn a fanciful notion into a realistic opportunity.
