In Sweden, they put banana on pizzas. Apparently it tastes rather good with curry powder and ham. But even though I'm a lifelong vegetarian, for once it's not the meat on the menu that's putting me off! There are some concoctions that deep down, we know won't ever gain mass appeal. As the New Moon arrives opposite Uranus, we're encouraged to explore exciting new ideas and plans. It's okay to be idiosyncratic, but the recipe for success will be found in doing what feels instinctively right.

Dog's Dinner

My mum always told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything at all. But it's hard to be all smiles when you're 'hangry' and your mum's put banana on your pizza. She's not even Swedish! Yet as Mercury and Venus converge tomorrow, no matter how much of a dog's dinner we're served, there are positives to take and opportunities to profit from. That doesn't mean that we need to blindly accept what's on our plate. But with creativity our dishes will prove far from disastrous.

Mercury

Mercury's imminent retrogradation isn't the only development our planet of commerce and communication is planning. In less than two weeks, a rare and spectacular Transit of Mercury occurs, as the winged messenger's shadow passes in front of the Sun. It's the second in a pair of transits... the first was in 2016; and it bookends a tumultuous time in which society has become more polarised. It's time to go back to what we've got in common, and make creative connections on a grand scale.

Halloween

It's Halloween, and Mercury is retrograde. Traditionally, this is seen as more 'trick' than 'treat'. But try knocking on doors and asking people whether they're happy with the latest political developments, and you'll find more ghoulish faces than in a month of Halloweens! But whether we're scared or delighted, we should remember that sugar-highs subside, fears get unmasked, and we adapt to our challenges. A step backwards isn't the disaster we think it is. It provides the opportunity get things on the right track.

Love Boat

Mercury turning retrograde is usually a 'back to the drawing board' moment. It often involves unforeseen (or all-to-often foreseen, but hoped they wouldn't be a problem) issues. It necessitates a re-evaluation of plans and processes. But as Venus enters Sagittarius today, that's not such a bad thing. The planet of love and value (both emotional and financial) is ready for adventure and looking to take advantage of newfound freedom. If we give our hearts room to manoeuvre, we'll love where they take us.

November, which is positively bursting with cosmic activity, brings a pivotal chapter in the story of 2019. Mars and Venus align with Pluto, Neptune changes direction, and Uranus and Mars oppose one another. But it's the Transit of Mercury that provides the real excitement. As its shadow passes over the face of the Sun, we can take stock and make valuable corrections to our course. Meanwhile, the Full Moon creates a 'Cradle of The Ancients', symbolising rebirth and hope for a shared future. Let's go!
