Conjuring Trick

Adventurous Jupiter and imaginative Neptune make three encouraging alignments in 2020. Each of these has its own flavour. Their second meeting, with both planets retrograde, encourages us to revisit the dreams we had at the start of the year. Like all visions these may prove elusive and hard to quantify. But it's the creative potential rather than the actual dream that's so precious. With Venus also linked to Neptune, something beautiful can be conjured out of (almost) nothing.

Accentuate the Positive

'An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'. These words, attributed to Gandhi, contrast with the original text of the Old Testament. Religions don't always preach tolerance and forgiveness. As Jupiter and Neptune make the second in a rare trilogy of encouraging and supportive links, they promote empathy and encourage us to engage with high ideals. No matter how sensitive we may be feeling, we can't let negativity sabotage the exploration of any beautiful dreams.

What's the Big Idea?
|

Having only just left its shadow, the long running tension between Mercury and assertive Mars came to a head earlier this week, stirring passions and eliciting strong words from some quarters. Mars' influence is still in effect, as the winged messenger lines up opposite Jupiter tomorrow while linking with Neptune. This will help smooth any ruffled feathers. But just because placation is possible, doesn't mean that capitulation is called for. We need to seize the opportunity to pursue big ideas.

Something Sweet?
|

I'm grateful my son hasn't inherited my greediness. For him, one biscuit is enough, whereas I must try hard not to inhale whole packets! As the Sun enters a tense relationship with Venus that lasts for most of August, we'll all be tempted by something sweet. Of course, there's nothing wrong with treating ourselves (or others) but we must be careful not to kill with kindness. Comfort can lead to complacency. Instead of yearning for the easy option, we can creatively find innovative solutions.

Fringe Benefits

In any normal year I'd be planning a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Yet it's been anything but a normal year. Meanwhile, everyone's talking about returning to 'significant normality'. Surely when normality is 'significant', it can't be 'normal'! One of life's few constants is that circumstances rarely stay consistent. What's important is whether we react with panic and despair, or ingenuity and purpose. Uranus and the Sun's links with Venus this weekend suggest we can summon the latter.

Your August Monthly Horoscope

People in the UK are known for their ability to form orderly queues. Yet recent events have tested even our patience. As we head into August there's reason to be hopeful, but also cause to be wary. Whilst Uranus (freedom and progress) channels the energy of the Aquarian Full Moon and suggests a welcome turning point, its turn backwards suggests the traffic won't all be one way. Yet the long link between Venus and the Sun suggests we're all inching closer to where we want to be.
