The Islamic calendar which, like many others, is lunar-based, runs differently to the Gregorian calendar. So, following the weekend's New Moon, I'm wishing 'Happy New Year' to my Muslim friends today. This year, when this special event coincides with the UN International Day of the World's Indigenous People, we're reminded of our planet's diverse heritage and traditions. No matter what form our differences take, the cosmic message is clear. Celebrating new perspectives enriches our lives.

Roar like a Lion

Although the lion is the 'king of the jungle', is it really top dog, er... I mean cat? Surely the elephant challenges this position? But elephants don't project majesty in quite the same way as roaring carnivores! Today is World Lion Day and, with the Sun in Leo, there will be plenty of exciting developments that vie for our attention. Yet, with Venus opposing Neptune, we're at risk of being deceived by appearances. Just because something looks beautiful doesn't mean it's fragile! Watch out for sparks from unlikely places.

Yesterday, we talked about whether we can always believe our eyes. Yet, although we're often told not to judge books by their cover, many have illustrated sleeves that accurately advertise their contents. With Venus moving on from its link with imagistic Neptune, and harmonising with subtle Pluto, assumptions need to be questioned. But that doesn't mean disregarding what our eyes see, or our hearts feel. Today brings a reminder of the value of exploring the hidden depths of the situations we find ourselves in.

The End of the Ending

The European Championships are over. The Olympics have ended. The whistle has blown on the so-called 'summer of sport' - just in time for a new football season to begin and the Paralympics to take over Tokyo! In sport, almost as soon as the medals have been awarded, the competition recommences. In the cosmos too, as Mercury leaves Leo and returns home to Virgo, we begin to think more about work and less about play. But the paths we start plotting now can lead to great success and healing.

13th Dinner Guest

One explanation for number 13's reputation may come from Norse mythology. According to the story, twelve gods were banqueting without Loki, the god of mischief. When the trickster arrived, he shot Balder (the god of joy) and the earth turned dark in mourning. Even the word Friday derives from the Norse god Freya; so the superstition has a very Scandinavian feel. But, no matter where you are in the world, there's no need to worry about misfortune today. Following the Mercury/Jupiter link, the luckier we think we are, the luckier we'll be.

An exciting astrological situation develops this week. As Venus enters Libra, communicative Mercury and the courageous Sun, are also in their home signs. This brings a window of opportunity, when our hearts and minds' desire to succeed can unite in pursuit of common goals. Although the empowered effects of these three planets doesn't guarantee giant leaps forwards, we can quickly and effectively sort out some core, important issues. It's time to make changes!
