Happy Habitat Day

Today is World Habitat Day; it's time to celebrate the ecosystems that allow animals (and humanity) to thrive. Since it's also my birthday, I'm returning to my own natural habitat: the sofa - with a takeaway and a favourite movie! After the year we've had, I felt almost obligated to celebrate with friends. Yet it's a Monday... so I've decided to avoid the inevitable hangover and just relax! And, as Mercury and Jupiter have realigned, whilst both retrograde, it's wise to re-examine plans, and keep the bigger picture in mind.

Happy Birthday to Kate Winslet, who turns 46 today. It's also World Teachers Day. Kate's an educator herself - she taught us that doors aren't as closed as they look! To be serious, having experienced the challenges of delivering lessons remotely, and witnessing the pressure that schools have been under, teachers deserve our recognition and gratitude every day. As we approach a New Moon combining with Mars and Mercury, we can all learn something that transforms how we feel about key relationships.

New Moon

Today, not only does a New Moon arrive, with Mars and retrograde Mercury also making their presence felt, but Pluto becomes the first of four planets to start moving forward during October. When outer planets change direction, they create a tectonic shift that's often (initially) difficult to perceive. As time goes by we'll realise that we're experiencing fewer restrictions and that there's less holding us back. Meanwhile, as long as we stay adaptable, it's a good time to start the next phase of any new plans.

There once was a fellow called Cainer / Who worked as a cosmic explainer / Though his forecasts were good / Some were misunderstood / He admitted they could've been plainer. Since it's National Poetry Day, I thought I'd demonstrate why I generally stick to prose! Following the New Moon, Venus' move into Sagittarius encourages us to be more creatively adventurous. Not everyone will 'get' what we're trying to do. But there's still enormous pleasure to be gained by putting our hearts into something new.

Act with Confidence

Emotions, like panic buyers, often arrive faster than they dissipate. And even if the source of our pains may be temporary, their effects linger in the mind, and (more potently) in the heart. That's why it takes courage to love with optimism and passion. Currently, we may be fearful that things are slipping backwards, and that what we care about is at risk. But we can't allow frustration or doubt to hold us back from pursuing our dreams. Acting courageously will bring power and restore confidence this weekend.

Is the age of chivalry over? The notion that women are less able certainly is, thank goodness. But the desire to gain favour by doing things for others isn't such a bad thing. We just need to be careful not to send out the wrong signals and end up hurting people rather than helping them. As Saturn turns direct and links with Venus, we can't afford to act without thinking, no matter how passionate we feel. Yet, accepting support needn't be demeaning. This week, the cosmos highlights the benefits of generous encouragement.
