All Saints' Day

It's All Saints' Day, when people who've lived saintly lives are remembered and celebrated. Some of these folk are legendary, but others, whose names have been lost in time, are honoured too. It's appropriate that Mercury, the winged messenger, steps out of the shadows today, and reminds us of the value of quiet words and faithful promises. Unlike the saints of old, we don't need to be martyrs to achieve results. As Venus prepares to move into Capricorn, a practical approach will be both wise and virtuous.

All Souls' Day

Today is All Souls' Day, a festival which is better known as the Day Of The Dead in Mexico, where those who have died are celebrated with vibrancy and colour as a way of honouring the richness of their lives. Since the pandemic, we've all suffered personal, cultural and economic losses. Yet we owe it to ourselves to do what we can to survive this experience, and transform our relationships with one another, and the world. Mercury's link with Pluto brings opportunities to use what we've learned, and grow stronger.

Cool Climate

With world leaders gathered for COP26, the climate crisis and the future of life on our planet is in the zeitgeist. Thinking about issues this large and complex can be overwhelming; especially when personal actions feel hopelessly inadequate. Yet the most futile thing we can do is to allow stress or fear to hinder progress. With the New Moon arriving opposite Uranus, we're encouraged to concentrate on changes, both emotional and practical, that we CAN make. Bit by bit they'll make a crucial difference.

Darkest Night

Tonight's New Moon signals the 'darkest night' in the Hindu calendar. It heralds Diwali, the Festival Of Light' a celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Since this New Moon opposes Uranus (the planet of breakthrough ideas) and links to Saturn (The Great Teacher) the stage is set for pragmatic enlightenment. In order to benefit from the divine inspiration on offer, we need to be ready to instigate change. Effort will be celebrated, and rewarded.

Guy Fawkes

Since Guy Fawkes failed to blow up parliament, the fireworks that fill tonight's UK skies represent explosions that didn't happen. Maybe we should celebrate more things that didn't quite happen! Like Russian colonel Stanislav Petrov's decision to refuse to obey orders; he averted a 'retaliatory nuclear attack' for what turned out be a false report of a US missile launch. As Mercury and Venus change signs, no matter what does (or doesn't) happen, we can take creative steps that leave a lasting, positive legacy.

Your Weekly Horoscope

Perhaps it's because I like spice in my food that whenever I have a heated exchange, I end up eating my words! This week, as communicative Mercury and fiery Mars converge, it's important to take the time to digest information. We need to walk the talk if we want to ring in the changes. Since life doesn't always live up to our highest standards, it's important to be realistic about what we put on the menu. But with inspiration and determination, we can create a convivial atmosphere. And a treat or two is in store.
