It's ironic that Mercury, the planet of communication, turns backwards during National Storytelling Week. Yet, many great stories don't follow a linear plot. The director Christopher Nolan is famous for playing with timelines; it's a tradition that dates back to Homer's Iliad in 8 BC. Mercury's retrogradation asks us to re-examine the stories we tell ourselves, where we've accepted unsatisfactory aspects of our lives. Whichever way the pages turn, we can start to write happier endings.

When Mercury is retrograde, we always have to revisit the drawing board. This time though, with Venus having joined the Arc of Aquarius, the heavens are filled with creativity. All the personal planets, plus Saturn and Jupiter, occupy the sign dedicated to social reform and futuristic breakthroughs. Meanwhile the ruler of Aquarius, revolutionary Uranus, is still linked with dynamic Mars. We're in the process of rewriting the ways we live our lives in order that the future we dream of can become a reality.

Hi Oscar, You recently talked about the Arc of Aquarius. Does this mean the Age of Aquarius has arrived? Yours, Val
Hi Val, The Arc Of Aquarius is a moment in time and, although its powerful effects will re-emerge throughout 2021, when the Sun enters Pisces some of them will dissipate. The Age of Aquarius lasts for 2,160 years; and experts differ on whether it has already begun, or won't start for centuries! Yet, whichever age we live in, the 'Arc' signals that positive progress is possible. Yours, Oscar

Sweet Lemons

They say that 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade'. But they forget to mention that the process requires heaps of sugar! Sometimes it's important to acknowledge that we're living through challenging times; and that we're not giving up. Few dishes aren't improved by a squeeze of lemon! As long as we have other ingredients to work with (and, as Venus converges with Saturn, we have more than we realise) life will get zestier and more palatable once the bitterness fades.

Sacrifice and Growth

Although the Great Conjunction has separated, its effects still reverberate across the heavens. This weekend, Venus, which has joined the Arc of Aquarius, meets with Saturn, as Jupiter lurks close by and Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, agitates for change. Sometimes, when we go in a new direction, we must sacrifice some of what we want. Yet, what we truly value finds ways to survive. The resilience and emotional strength we're building will change our way of living for the better.

There are times when we need to stand up for our values, protect what we love and let go of outmoded affectations. Meanwhile, the issues and people we really care about find ways to evolve and become more integrated into our lives. Retrograde Mercury continues to question past actions, whilst presenting creative solutions to any persistent problems. It's time to embrace an exciting new path. Under the Aquarian New Moon, we stand to gain much more than what we fear we might lose.
