A Good Heart

'Keep a good heart. That's the most important thing in life. It's not how much money you make or what you can acquire. The art of it is to keep a good heart.' With tomorrow's Lunar Eclipse heightening sensitivity, Joni Mitchell's words are worth bearing in mind. Even when mutual interests appear to align, it's important not compromise our moral and ethical boundaries. With the Sun, Mercury and Venus combining, it's the perfect moment to articulate our needs, with a chance of receiving what we're due.

US Elections

Eclipses are traditionally seen as bad omens for kings and tyrants. Of course, whether or not you consider the current US president to be something of a tyrant depends on which side of the aisle your politics align. Personally, I'm not sure my politics belongs in any aisle other than the dairy section at my supermarket! But as the US votes today, the opportunity for people to express how cheesed off they are isn't confined to the ballot box. The Lunar Eclipse reminds us of what we're worth and shows us how to protect our interests.

Napoleon

Since today marks the anniversary of Napoleon overthrowing the French government, I thought I'd share a joke I wrote: why did the army stop using carrier pigeons? They'd heard whispers of a coo! The fact that I can't hear you laughing doesn't make it unfunny! But, when I've told this to people in person, they don't always collapse with laughter either... We can't force people to respond to us in the way we want them to. Yet, following the Lunar Eclipse, gentle but firm persuasion will work wonders.

When idealism meets reality, there's sometimes a clash. Following Elon Musk's headline-making Twitter takeover, there's much talk of the need for an online town square, where free speech is protected. Sadly, with bots, trolls and spammers, the internet can be a dangerous place. Yet in the analogue world we needn't fear sharing views today. As Mercury and Saturn link, it pays to be serious and succinct. And Venus and Neptune insist that kindness will prove more inspiring than criticism.

Romance

Thanks to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, Leo DiCaprio, whose birthday is today, was the Hollywood heartthrob adorning the walls of my school friends' bedrooms. Yet DiCaprio wanted to avoid being typecast as a romantic hero, and went on to choose projects that showed his acting versatility. As Mercury aligns with Neptune this weekend, there's no need to try to live up to an impossible image. Venus promises that whichever part we need to play, we can access the qualities needed and grow into the role.

Your Weekly Horoscope

In these troubled times, Remembrance Sunday feels particularly poignant this year. And with Mercury (communication) harmonising with Neptune (which represents sacrifice) the cosmos echoes the prevailing mood. Yet as various planets align to make minor Grand Trines, if we focus on the gains achieved through personal sacrifice, we can take this opportunity to instigate positive, peace-inspired change. There's hope in the darkness. And this week's cosmic events will strengthen our optimism.
