PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Monday July 10
Finger of Fate
As bombastic Mars leaves the Finger of Fate it brings its visionary, transformative action into gentle and considerate Virgo - which might conjure up images of cats among pigeons, and bulls in china shops... but there's more than one way to skin a cat (or a pigeon, or a bull for that matter)! The energy needed to kick start ambitious projects needs to be sustained. And earthy Virgo provides the sustenance required to maintain momentum. It's time to put our enthusiasm into details as well as the bigger picture.

The Mighty Pen
The pen is said to be mightier than the sword and, in the words of Marty Feldman, it's also 'considerably easier to write with'! As Mercury (communication) harmonises with dreamy Neptune, and moves opposite Pluto, it's important to select our words with care. Under this cosmic climate, there's a chance of being tempted to use fear to motivate people into taking action. Yet if we override those temptations, and replace them with an encouraging attitude, new understandings can inspire real transformations.

Brave Decisions
The philosopher Henry David Thoreau said 'if one advances confidently in the direction of their dreams, and endeavours to live the life they've imagined, they'll meet with a success unexpected'. As Mercury confidently explores Leo, following its dalliance with dreamy Neptune and transformative Pluto, his words fit perfectly with the cosmic climate. Sometimes, despite a fear of failure, ideas need to be expressed and explored. Imperfection isn't failure. Brave decisions lead to positive results today.

Indiana Jones
Happy birthday Harrison Ford! Back in 1981 when Indiana Jones first hit the big screen, I bet he didn't think he'd be playing the same character at the age of 81! It's simply astonishing. Having taken my son to see the movie last weekend, I can confirm that the film is much more than a vehicle for nostalgia. Its fresh take on the franchise is unexpectedly successful. In real life, as Mercury (intellect) and Uranus (innovation) align, new spins on familiar problems can lead to similarly surprising successes.

Mario Bros
Today, in 1983, Mario Bros, the video game that introduced us to superhero Italian plumbers was released in Japan. Who'd have thought that 40 years later my 9-year-old would be watching movies based on their adventures? The value of ideas isn't always obvious. We might sense their powerful potential, but it's hard to predict the size of their success. As Venus slows this weekend, the results of creative breakthroughs might not be obvious. But we're just playing a longer game.

Your Weekly Horoscope
As the Wimbledon finals get underway, it's worth noticing how much tennis has changed. In the past, it tended to be dominated by strong players who fired down aces to grind out wins. Nowadays creative, ingenious stars amaze us with their skill and dexterity. As the New Moon arrives opposite mysterious Pluto, subtle combinations of power and imagination will triumph over brute force. We might not be battling across a net, or holding up any trophies, but satisfying results are achievable.
